SB Halftime Show?!

So, I had the craziest idea I’ve had in a while (stay sober, guys).

Some background:

ESPN NFL 2K5 dropped when I was a kid and it was (is) the BEST football game I’ve ever played. In an age where a new video game would run you $50, Sega decided to sell this game for TWENTY DOLLARS! Yes, $20. That was the main selling point and it absolutely worked on me. My Dad didn’t mind shelling out $20 after all the times I’d asked for $50. Sega managed to release a football game that, by popular opinion, was better than that year’s edition of the long-running Madden series. After damn near 20 years, it is the game I play most often.

So, for about a year or two I’ve been streaming myself playing this game on Twitch (twitch.tv/tmgexp). Franchise mode is always fun; take a team and act as HC/GM, deciding who gets drafted, traded, or benched. For example, in the past I’ve taken the Texans (worst team in the game) and within 5 years turned them into a dynasty. It’s fun. Most recently I’ve been playing franchise mode as the Atlanta Falcons. I want to see Vick retire with a ring, dammit!

I’m currently playing the 2010 NFL season and, after a grueling playoff run, am representing the NFC in the Super Bowl! We’re playing against the Tennessee Titans, in a fantasy matchup. “Fantasy” as in, we’re never going to live in a universe where both of these teams are that good at the same time haha. Anyways, I had the idea…if I’m going to stream a Super Bowl game, shouldn’t there be a halftime show? I don’t know Usher or Dre or Bruno Mars personally, or else I’d ask them to help me out. But I’m a musician…right? So I’m taking my talents to that Super Bowl stage and performing a set of original songs!

It’ll be my first time live streaming a performance like this and I’m learning the technical aspects of this as I go along. So on one hand, I’m completely out of my depth re: streaming software and making this livestream a smooth one. On the other, I’m performing songs I’ve been playing live for ages now (Thanks, Pomona Loud!). No matter what happens, it’ll be the most ambitious idea I’ve had in a minute.

It’s funny…the idea’s not even that crazy. But, the Martin of 10 years ago would’ve talked himself out of it once the feelz wore off. So with me luck and be sure to tune in! Details are coming soon.
