Coming to an end…

Each January, I write out what I’d like to have accomplished in the next 12 months. The idea is to give myself some sort of ultimate direction that’ll inform my month-to-month goals and choices. This year, like most years, I didn’t quite get where I wanted. Not because I’m not trying, but because plans and goals and circumstances are always changing. I didn’t expect my merch ideas to fall so flat or for my demos to keep collecting dust. On the other hand, I didn’t expect to be playing a Halloween jazz gig wearing a Robin Hood costume. All in all I’m happy with what went well; Make It Stop had a great month or so of traction and it gave me some experience with Google Ads and finding my demographic. I didn’t expect to be inspired by The Rock to showing up to WrestleMania in bell-bottoms.

Life’s kinda weird. It’s also kinda cool sometimes. The mantra of 2025 is gonna be: PUT IT OUT! It’s about me getting over the idea that every song has to be perfect before I can show anyone. It’s the reason why I have so many full songs that aren’t out because I’m a little iffy about the drums or the mix. Put it out! It will never be perfect. Some of my favorite songs are full of imperfections and I still love them. The best advice I ever got about writing is “Make the music you’d want to listen to.” I listen to music with imperfect vocals or muddy mixes or bad punch-ins (Eminem’s latest album haha).

Anyways, here’s to the end of 2024! Considering what people in other parts of the world are going through, I’m extremely grateful for my life. I get to sit in a temperature controlled room with a roof and running water. I have a world of information at my fingertips. I have friends that I love to be around. I have a woman who knows exactly how to hold me down. Things are good :)
